It's all About 'Value' in New York
Domain Consultant Previews Aftermarket.com’s Streamlined Live Auction

When asked by the terrific squad at Aftermarket.com/TrafficZ to review and select the domains to be included in their September 24th auction, we jumped at the chance with enthusiasm and resolve and with the stated mission of scouring the submissions for real ‘value’ – the domain equivalent to ripe and luscious fruit.

At Domain Consultant, ‘value’ in a domain has several meanings and variants. A domain can have many types of ‘value’ or just one. And when a domain has multiple avenues of value and is offered at a fair price, we refer to it as being ‘ripe’ for picking. Indeed, like low-hanging apples or kumquats.

Still, for the Aftermarket.com auction, our ‘mission’ was to identify names with the best potential for growth in multiple ‘value’ areas, listed at the right price and for all scales of domainers - big, middle and small.

To that end, Domain Consultant then defined ‘value’ in regards to the auction thusly:

1. Short term value - The most elusive of values these days as it is increasingly difficult to locate ‘pay-off’ names without paying high multiples.

2. Long term value- Potential for end-user resale and/or commercial development.

3. SEO value - For premiums, the value is in ‘targeted traffic’; for generics it is in ‘branding’.

4. ‘Perceived’ value – A great domain has the ability to open doors otherwise closed.

5. Brand value – A combination of factors affect ‘brand value’ including several of the above items.

With the definitions (or goals) stated above, we reviewed the submissions – the ultimate objective to find names that could apply to multiple ‘value’ classes while being listed at reasonable/budget prices.

To that end, I believe our search and selection has been a great success: it is clearly, now, the time to buy. Quality inventory is up and their prices have become competitive comparative to previous cycles. Yet the availability of ‘valuable’ names is still finite and shrinking and thus, opportunity abounds in a down market affected by all things from jobs to housing to, yes, ‘lipstick on pigs’

The final list, to be released shortly, will likely comprise forty (40) to fifty (50) high quality domains. By choosing a limited amount and time-sensitive offerings, we are attempting to maximize your time/ effort as well as produce a list that emphasizes ‘quality’ over ‘quantity’ or ‘choices’.

The auction will be fast, focused and full of value, full of ‘deals’, full of excitement – we’re streamlining the traditional domain auction and designing it for more us…the modern domainer. This is not your grandma’s domain auction.

Stay tuned, we will be releasing and REVIEWING auction offerings –we feel it is important to explain our selection reasoning as it is what we do with our regular clients. We will also be discussing the auction itself and how we’ve worked to make it better, faster and more ‘valuable’ to both bidder and seller.

In the end, that is our purpose: to serve as a ‘harvesting’ guide to ‘value’ - the value without and the value within. Don’t miss it; the fruit is especially ripe this year.
